Maddie Simpson doubled and recorded three hits to lead the Northmor softball team to a 9-6 win over Ridgedale on April 20 to end last week, and this week she continued her excellent play with a pair of homers in a 14-1 win over Fredericktown.
Ridgedale put a run on the board in the first inning, but Northmor took the lead in the bottom half on a two-run single by Mahaila Strobel in the bottom half. Ridgedale went on to tie the game, and then take a 4-2 lead in the second inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, Strobel flew out to the second baseman, but Kallie Wright scored on an error to make it a one run game. Kate Kissling followed with an RBI double to right to lock things up at 4-4. The Golden Knights took the lead in the bottom of the fourth innings when Simpson drilled an RBI double. Wright reached on a dropped third strike, and then Fulk hit a sacrifice fly to bring Simpson home and go up 6-4.
Shelby Cooper lined an RBI single and Strobel doubled in a run, which was followed by a Kissling RBI single to make it 9-4 at the end of six innings. Kenzie Delaney hit a two run bomb in the top of the seventh, but Northmor held on for the three run win.
Simpson was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Kissling was also 3-for-4, and drove in a pair of runs. Strobel went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run.
Cooper pitched three and two-thirds innings of relief ball to get the win, allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks, while striking out four.
After being dominated 16-4 by KMAC rival Fredericktown on April 22, they had a blowout win of their own against Mount Gilead, 14-1, led by a two home run showing for Simpson.
Simpson was 3-for-4 with the two homers, three RBIs and three runs. Cooper was 3-for-4, as well, with three runs scored. Lexi See was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Strobel also doubled in a 2-for-4 day with a run scored. Saje Miley was 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs.
Cooper went four innings in relief, allowing a hit and a walk, while striking out eight. Kissling started the game, going two innings, allowing three hits and an earned run, while striking out three.
