Burgess drives in 5 in Redbirds win over South Central

The Loudonville softball team had an 18 hit barrage against South Central on April 22, with Kate Burgess driving in five runs while being a triple away from the cycle in a 19-3 win for the Redbirds.

Loudonville scored in every inning, going up 5-0 to start and then putting six on the board in the second inning. The Trojans scored twice in the second inning, as well, but Loudonville responded with a run in the third inning. South Central put a run on the board in the fourth inning, but the Redbirds piled on seven more to in the bottom half of the inning.

Burgess was 3-for-4 with a double and a homer, while knocking in five, scoring three times and stealing a base. Fellow senior Payton Van Sickle continued what has been a top tier season at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. She also walked and stole two bases.

Carlee Young was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a pair of runs. She tripled and homered in the game. Natalee Buzzard hit was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and three runs, and Alesha Felix also knocked in two runs in a 1-for-3 day. Helaina Gray went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Jaiden Stitzlein went five innings, allowing three runs but one earned, and seven hits, while striking out four in the win.

Fredericktown 5, Loudonville 4

On April 23, the Freddies and the Redbirds went to eight innings, but Fredericktown was able to squeak by with a 5-4 victory.

The Freddies went up 1-0 in the first inning when Kelsey Bell hit an RBI single. Loudonville tied up the game in the bottom of the second when Buzzard reached on an error, and Felix came around to score. The Freddies took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Jesenia Montalvo knocked an RBI single to centerfield. They made it a two run lead when Sammy Hughes reached on an error that scored Bell.

In the bottom of the sixth, Addison Wolford grounded out by Olyvia Fenton was able to score on an error. Burgess followed with a double and later came home on an error that came on a single by VanSickle.

In the top of the eighth inning, Chloe Wells led off with a homer for Fredericktown. Tiona Over and Trinity Garretson had back-to-back walks, and then Julia Partington knocked in a run on a single to right. Loudonville made it interesting when Felix drove in a run on a single, but the Freddies held on the the extra-innings victory.

Montalvo hit two doubles and knocked in a run for the Freddies. Bell was 2-for-4 and also doubled, while scoring one and knocking in a run.

Loudonville was led by VanSickle, who doubled twice and had an RBI and a walk. Felix also doubled in a 2-for-4 day, scored and had an RBI. Burgess was 1-for-4 with a double.

Taylor Brown got the win, going five and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing three hits, one unearned run and two walks, while striking out right.

Buzzard went all eight innings in the loss, allowing five runs but three earned, seven hits and four walks, while striking out four.
